BuildsNetwork discovery
Fieldglass
Operations console
A device-intelligence console that discovers what is on a network and keeps uncertain devices out of the trusted inventory.
Partial fingerprint. The suggested class is printer. A person confirms it before it becomes trusted.
What it solves
Networks accumulate hardware that nobody can name with confidence. Spreadsheets go stale the day a device is replaced, and a weak fingerprint is easy to treat as a fact.
Capabilities
- Discovery sweep across mixed device types
- Classification with an explicit review state
- Living inventory of confirmed devices
- Held items that stay visible until a person places them
Where it gets hard
- Devices answer differently, or not at all
- Fingerprints arrive partial and noisy
- Rediscovery has to update a device without duplicating it
- A guessed class must not become a trusted record
In the loop
An agent proposes a class from the fingerprint and the neighbors around the device.
A person confirms anything uncertain before it enters the trusted inventory.
